For years Anastasia Ben-Yaacov explored the Judean Desert, capturing the blinding light on the huge open vistas, the dark shadows of the mysterious crevices, the threatening harsh mountain peaks, and the shade of fleeting clouds, in ever new and refreshing variations. Her search for the inner essence of the landscape brought her silence and harmony. For her, the landscape and Renaissance painting are intimately connected, and a similar delving beyond the surface of Old Master paintings expanded both her painterly awareness and spiritual horizon.
